Tattooing has been present in the world through out history, and in different locations. In some countries, it has strong cultural connotations. Tattooing is considered an ancient art form and it has different styles.
Your skin is a canvas
I think having a tattoo is a commitment, and it’s understandable why some of us are attracted to tattoos. It’s creativity, and it can be seen as an expression of who we are. Once you get your first tattoo, it’s hard to stop there. It requires more understanding when someone tattoos all their body, including their face.
Personally, I have 4 tattoos. The first 2, I didn’t design them. And for a long time, I wanted to get a 3rd tattoo, but because of family I postponed it for a very, very long time. When it couldn’t be postponed anymore, and knowing that I wanted to be an artist, I went into the challenge of designing my first tattoo. It was a great experience for my soul.
The two images above are the tattoos I have designed for myself. I was fortunate enough, to find a tattoo artist that was opened to receive my tattoo designs, guide me in some corrections, and to tattoo me. I’m aware that there are some tattoo artists that only work with their own designs.
Meaning and reminders
When I was designing my first tattoo, I realized the importance of what it means to me. Accepting that I couldn’t stopped wanting to get another tattoo. That I also had the means to get one. The compromise was to create one for myself, and that I didn’t want to hide it anymore (like the first two I have).
If you’re considering getting a tattoo, let it be a reflection of who you are. Explore with meanings, what do you want to remind yourself, and enjoy your process.
